"Me, I’m dishonest, and you can always trust a dishonest man to be dishonest. Honestly, it’s the honest ones you have to watch out for." - Johnny Depp

Every time it is announced that Johnny Depp is starring in a production, well… as the Joker says… "Everybody loses their mind". This is absolutely normal. The talented actor shines in each role he receives, no matter if it is targeted at children or adults. However, there is a reason why he, the mad schizophrenic that we are used to see on the big screen, plays his roles so perfectly. This will be explained in the following lines.

John Christopher “Johnny” Depp II is born on the 9th of June 1963 in Owensboro, Kentucky in the family of an engineer and a waitress. However, the family changed their home too frequently and ended up living in more than 20 places. The rapid movements and the problems in the family began to affect the mentality of the child and Depp started drifting away from reality more and more often. At the age of 12 he started drinking and smoking, and at the age of 13 he lost his virginity. Two years later he started using drugs.

Hopefully, he also started to fall in love with music and later received a gift from his mother – an electric guitar, which he learned to play alone. Soon, he joined a rock band, which used to play in bars and restaurants. However, the band failed to gain popularity and disbanded.

At the age of 20 he married Lori Allison, who introduced Depp to Nicholas Cage. Depp’s good looks, charisma, manners and way of speaking impressed Cage and he introduced Johnny to his agent. The result of this acquaintance was the first movie, in which the later-to-become sex symbol played – A Nightmare on Elm Street. Part of the payments that Depp received for playing in the classical horror were spend for acting classes. After gaining experience and playing in a couple of other, not that impressive for his career productions, he got noticed by Tim Burton, who offered him the main role in the movie Edward Scissorhands. During this production, Depp partnered with Helena Bonham Carter (Tim Burton’s wife) and this is how the trio, which spurs interest even today, got formed.

Despite the rapid scandals in his personal life, which attracted huge media interest, Depp received the main roles in the movies What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and Arizona Dream, which in turn received high marks from cinema critics.

At this point the hard times were over. The experienced actor became the audience favorite. His demeanor in front of the cameras helped him recreate complex key roles and colorful characters, which brought only benefits to the image of “Johnny Depp”. You can now see some of the most memorable transformations of the actor in the slideshow below.
